An attempt such as this doesn’t just happen without the support of individuals and organisation.
Special acknowledgement is due to following organisations:
- EYRES Safety Optics are the major sponsor of the attempt and making it all possible. EYRES is a WA company that designs and produ
cers an enormous range safety spectacles and sunglasses that are lightweight, comfortable and flexible. As Chris will be spending so much time on the road, with trucks and cars rushing past, having sunglasses that are safety rated is really important. Having a range of interchangeable lens also greatly helps as Chris and his team will be riding at all times of the day and night. For more information on the EYRES range, click here. - WAFarmers, who is sponsoring Chris a number of days off work while he makes the attempt, and being supportive while he trains and prepares.
- Garland Cycleworks who will service my bike, along with assistance with parts equipment and fundraising. Nick, Mickey, Ash and the teams expertise will also be fantastic.
- E3 Champion, who is sponsorship Chris and his crew with their electrolyte/protein sports drink. Chris has chosen to use this drink as he feels it has the right balance of electrolytes while having protein to help with recovery. The right drink is critical to the attempt, with Chris planning on drinking over 10l per day.
- Rob Gardner from WOBM Interactive, who has provided web assistances, helping to let you know what is happening.
- Telstra Country Wide, who is assisting with a telecommunication needs including Satellite phones, mobile phones and wireless internet. All of these will be important so that we can keep you up to date with our progress and get the latest weather information.
- Perth Integrated Health Clinic, who are providing me with first class clinical support and advice before and importantly after the attempt, as well as organising a number of fund-raising rides for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
- 2XU, who has provided Chris with state of the art compression clothing to reduce fatigue during cycling and speed up the recovery process, so that he is ready to jump back on the bike.
- EmbroidMe Perth CBD, who is supplying Chris and the crew with their clothing needs.
- Kott Gunning Lawyers, who are sponsoring the attempt and assisting with some of the legalities that go with these types of events.
- Ravensdown, who are valued sponsors of the attempt and strong supporters of rural communities.
- LeisureLife, who are allowing me to attend a number of RPM and SPIN classes each week at their Victoria Park gym.
- Cannington Motorcycles and SYM scoota who are provide us with a scooter to use during the attempt. The scooter will play an important role in keeping Chris safe, things lit up and communications (between Chris and his support crew).
- Aussie Butt Cream, who provide an anti-chafing, anti-friction chamois cream that aims to prevent and reduce chafing, abrasions, and bacterial and fungal infections that lead to saddle sores.
- Super Advice Services, is a local WA business that assists organisations in all of their superannuation needs.
As well as these organisations, there is a large group of individuals who are offering their support in fundraising, as part of his support crew, and other essential assistance.
Some of these individuals include:
- Chris’s understanding fiancée, who is allowing Chris to make the attempt and providing love and support, despite it being just 3 weeks before their wedding.
- Chris’s brother Glen, who has kindly volunteered to be a key member of the support crew and is assisting Chris in his preparations for the attempt.
- Chris and Linda who have offered to be a part of the support crew and provide me with invaluable support.
- My fellow cyclists from Saturday morning group rides, Richard, Harry, Scott and Ash, and friend Holly who have kindly offered to be a part of the support crew.
- A big thank you also to Adam and Alison for their support, interest and assistance in all things the attempt.
- Both Chris and Michelle’s families who have assisted in fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

G’day Chris,
Sorry to hear you had to call the attempt short. However no record is worth serious injury, or worse.
I think it is great what you set out to achieve. I applaud your dedication and commitment to supporting a worthy cause and I also admire your support crew and their efforts.
I, myself am attempting my first distance ride for charity. I am riding from Canberra to Melbourne in support of MS Australia and will be heading off Feb 11 2011. I have not attempted anything like this before and look forward to the challenge. Being my first ride the days are not all long. Have to work up to those.
I would like to organise and complete rides in the future and one day hope to do Sydney/Melbourne to Perth.
Well done on your efforts and I will be following you on Facebook and keeping an eye out for future attempts and rides.
Cheers and keep up the great work.
Matt.
